Save the Date — April 10 - 11, 2015!

We are delighted to announce our Third Annual Judicial Education Conference slated for Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11, 2015, entitled “The Economics of Crime and Punishment” that will blend both civil and criminal issues. Judges will learn from the “best of the best” legal scholars and practitioners, who will cover everything from the economics of white collar crimes, class actions and civil penalties, to felony sentencing, realignment, search and seizure.

The conference venue will again be the Marriott Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa, a spectacular AAA Five-Diamond ocean view hotel in Dana Point. As you can see, the hotel boasts gorgeous coastal views, a truly world class spa and fitness center, as well as first cabin accommodations. For more information on the conference venue visit www.lagunacliffs.com.

This exciting and illuminating program will again be hosted by our partner in judicial education, the George Mason University School of Law. There will be two full days of instruction in 2015, with a distinctive, economics oriented program on the first day, and a highly focused criminal law program on the second day.  Presenters include several of the most prominent attorneys in the nation, including white collar crimes prosecutors and defense counsel, legal scholars who will debate the merits of imposing massive civil penalties on public companies, and renowned jurists.

The conference is free to participants, including instructional materials, lunches, receptions, and dinners both Friday and Saturday nights.  For those traveling from other parts of California, your only cost will be travel and lodging. We have again negotiated the same room rate, $179/per night, which is less than half the regular room rate. The hotel has also agreed to waive the customary $25/night resort fee, and has reduced its parking fee. In addition, we have negotiated this same reduced room rate for three days before and after the conference, should you wish to add more days to your hotel stay.

So, mark your calendar and plan on attending! Your presiding judge should approve educational leave for this conference, which fulfills part of the recommended educational classes for all California judicial officers.

While we encourage you to join, you do not need to be a member of the Alliance to attend. For more information about the Alliance, visit www.allianceofcaliforniajudges.com. Stay tuned for more information about the conference. Registration details will be forthcoming in early 2015.

For immediate information, contact the Alliance Education Coordinator, Judge John Adams by email at john.s.adams@cox.net or by telephone at 949-500-4211.  See you next April.
