A New Way for Spare the Air Days

Jibe is discontinuing its free Jibe Express service on Spare the Air Days. However, there's a new way to win.

Sac Region 511 is a one-stop shop for finding great commute options. Go there to sign up and join the Express Riders network. By logging your bus trips, you become eligible to be the lucky passenger who wins the $25 gift card given away on every Spare the Air Day.

The gift cards are redeemable at select businesses in the Sacramento Gateway Shopping Center including Beach Hut Deli, Chang's Thai, Don Quixote's, Vampire Penguin, Michaels, TJMaxx and Big 5.

DCA Participates in Bike to Work Day

How did you observe May is Bike Month? Employees at the Department of Consumer Affairs stepped up their Bike in May game this year. On Bike to Work Day, riders enjoyed perfect weather for a morning ride, followed by breakfast and a gift that keeps on giving: a pair of limited edition May is Bike Month socks.

Keep on riding DCA!

Jibe & UTI - Business Partnership

Bike Doc paid a visit to valued Jibe partner Universal Technical Institute (UTI) last month. Employees, students, and nearby residents were invited to come out and get a bike checkup. Mechanics fixed 46 bikes during the event.

UTI and Jibe have recently teamed up to offer an ongoing Bike Fleet benefit for students and employees. Five bicycles are available for anyone who wants to replace a car ride with a bike ride. Bikes are checked out for a ride around campus, a commute to and from work, for errands, or just for fun.

Thanks, UTI! We appreciate the partnership and the opportunity to spread the word on our unique programs and services to North Natomas businesses.

Mark Your Calendar: Bike Doc and Helmet Sale in June

No appointment is necessary to have Bike Doc give your ride a checkup, but don't wait too long. There are just two more Bike Doc events this spring.

Come out to the North Natomas Library on Thursday, June 20 at 4-7 p.m.

The event at the library also includes a low-cost helmet sale. For just $5, you can get a proper helmet to protect your noggin. A jibe employee will be there to make sure it's the right fit.

Bike Doc will also be at the Lofts Apartments (3351 Duckhorn Drive) on Friday, June 21 at 3-6 p.m.

After these events, Bike Doc will close up shop for a few months. Don't worry. More events will be scheduled in the fall.

Project Ride Smart by the Numbers

Learning how to ride a bike is a big childhood milestone, but there's a lot more to know than how to not fall down. Jibe's Project Ride Smart is a 10-hour educational program designed for 5th graders and taught by certified bike instructors. The students learn traffic principles and on-bike handling skills. The class culminates with street rides on neighborhood streets.

This year we're celebrating our 10th year of Project Ride Smart. In that time, 4,572 kids have graduated. In this past 2018/2019 school year, five schools participated and 504 students completed the course. Congratulations to everyone who has finished the program and gone on to ride safely.

Levee Project Closures

As most Natomas residents know, the Natomas Basin is one of the most at-risk areas in the nation for catastrophic flooding. That's why the Lower Natomas Basin Levee Improvement Project is underway.

It will be done in phases at four locations. While this flood risk reduction work will ultimately make Natomas safer, it will also temporarily impact area roadways.

Road closures, particularly on the Garden Highway, will result in increased traffic and likely longer commutes occurring where you live and work.

Go to North Natomas Levee Project for road closure updates.
