Calling for Volunteers! The NNTMA is gearing up for its inaugural 50 Bikes for 50 Kids event, which will be held on January 21st, Martin Luther King Day and a National Day of Service. On this day, 50 well-deserving, previously awarded kids will be matched with teams of volunteer bike builders. Together they will assemble a brand new bicycle that the child gets to take home. This is a unique opportunity to help a child - and your community - through very hands-on participation. It can only be successful with the help from our neighbors and friends just like you. We need more volunteers so answer the call of service and sign up to be a bike-building “engineer” or enlist to help with registration or clean-up at the event, or set-up on Sunday, January 20th from 12 - 4pm. Be a part of this hands-on experience that will enrich a child's life – and yours. Go here for more information and to reserve your spot today. |

Crossing Study Looks to You for Input The City of Sacramento is now looking at the feasibility of building an additional crossing over the American River that would connect South Natomas to the Grid. The study is just in its infancy and is looking for feedback from the community through a survey found here. Through this questionnaire, you can give input on topics such as, whether the crossing should be made for all types of transportation, or bikes, foot traffic and light rail only. Do you have an idea about where the bridge should be located? They want to hear from you. The survey will close on December 14th. For more information, click here. |

Two Courses to Teach Tots Cycling Skills If you spend as much time on two wheels as you do on two feet, then read on. Right now, the North Natomas TMA and San Juan Unified School District are putting a call out for paid cycling instructors to teach young students how to cycle. We will provide the education.
If this sounds like your dream job, contact Mellissa Meng. |

Blue Line Gets Federal Green Light—Green Line Not Far Behind For Natomas residents, there is a glimmer at the end of the light rail tunnel. Funding approval for the South Sacramento Blue Line section of light rail was recently announced which means the Green Line is not far behind. The Green Line is the future slated path of light rail from downtown to the airport via Natomas. It celebrated a milestone in June with new track and service to the Richards Blvd. station, but was previously anticipated to be completed as late as 2035. The advancement of the Blue Line project could mean an earlier completion date, according to the NNTMA and other transportation officials. |

Step by Step Through 2012 The NNTMA is a nonprofit organization with the mission to foster transportation behaviors that benefit the community through advocacy, programs, education, and services. We have had a great 2012 in our shuttle, bike, and walk to school programs supporting North Natomas residents and businesses each commuting step of the way. This year the Flyer shuttles were updated to new compressed natural gas vehicles with Wi-Fi, digital way-finding signs, and an online estimated arrival time tracking system. More loops were added to existing routes to enable over 75,000 trips be taken, a 120% increase in trips over 2011.
Our Walk to School Program averaged 897 students weekly during the 2011-2012 school year, that’s 19% of the student population in participating schools walking, biking, or scootering to school with parents, friends, and Walking School Buses. During May is Bike Month students and teachers in nine participating schools rode 41,950 miles, or approximately 14 trips across the United States!
We look forward to an exciting 2013 filled with new programs and local favorites. Stay tuned at NNTMA.org, follow us on Twitter @NorthNatomasTMA, and like us on Facebook to find out how the NNTMA can help you get to where you’re going. |
