Clock is Ticking on Bike Rebates

Have you had your eye on that shiny new hybrid or gooey gel seat, but just can’t stretch your budget that far? Have no fear. It’s our mission to foster better transportation choices, and one way we do this is through our Bike Rebate program where selected applicants receive up to 40 percent off a new bike or accessory. That is a maximum of $250 for a bicycle and $50 for a bike accessory.

Applications are available now on our website and will continue through the program deadline of April 30th. This program is first-come, first-served so do not delay. Please go here for complete details.

Sharpen Your Spidey Cycling Senses

If you are the happy recipient of a bike rebate, or just want to brush up on your cycling skills come check out our first of three Cycling Clinics on March 20th. The clinic is required if you are a rebate recipient and is designed to refresh you on the rules of the road and answer any questions you may have about negotiating traffic, right of way, etc. The class is held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the North Natomas Library, so mark your calendar and bring a friend! No reservations are needed.

For more information, email Sarah.

Cycle & Camp with the Natomas Flyers!

Break out the tents and tire tubes for a three-day adventure on the Emigrant Trails Bike Trek in South Lake Tahoe’s Camp Richardson.  On September 6, 7 and 8th participants can expect stunning scenery, catered meals, on-road support teams and themed stops every 15-20 miles of the journey. Plus, the NNTMA’s Natomas Flyers cycling group will be sponsoring a team again this year and will provide jerseys (and a posse of new friends) for everyone who signs up!

The New Face of Natomas Is… You?

Residents of North Natomas now have someone to look up to – you or possibly someone you know! Look up to see the brand new “Commute and Enjoy” pole banners we have erected around town, close to school locations. These banners feature local students, parents and teachers who walk pedal, skate or scoot to school and act as a kind of “slow zone” marker, identifying areas where residents and children are on foot.

There Is Such a Thing As a Free Ride

Did you know that the State of California and the Federal Government both provide their employees with a reimbursement for public transit? Did you also know that your local Flyer Shuttle is a type of public transit!? So, if you are a public employee, talk to your Human Resources personnel for information about how you can receive reimbursement for the shuttle!

To make life even easier, you can also register with the Commuter Club to qualify for Emergency Ride Home vouchers good for a free taxi ride home. These can be applied up to six times in a year if: you get sick; receive unscheduled, supervisor-approved overtime; or have an emergency at home or with your children. Go to the Commuter Club link on our website for more details.

Sharing is Winning!

Congratulations to Martha Maltz, long time Flyer rider who was randomly chosen from those who participated in our Share the Flyer program at the end of last year. She won a $25 gift card for Barnes & Noble! Like perks and freebies? Stay tuned for opportunities to save money, spare the air and win prizes in 2013!

Live Well, Natomas!

Just when New Year’s commitments dive for the post-January resolution graveyard, resurrect them with the Second Annual “Live Well Natomas!” Now, through March 30th, you can join your neighbors and friends at North Natomas Regional Park at 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. to “Loop the Lake.” It doesn’t matter if you’re a marathon runner or a steady-paced walker, you’ll find someone who’s “looping” at your speed. You can always bring a friend, too – either two-legged or four-legged as the program has added "Dog GONE Good" to the mix this year. It’s an invitation to get your furry companion on the “live well” bandwagon with a free doggy bandana to the first 50 pups who sign up. Plus, free t-shirts go to the first 100 humans who sign up. Visit livewellnatomas.org today and get back on track with healthy habits before they’re dead and GONE.

You Asked For Numbers…

Last month we hopped on board the Flyer to share not only the ride, but information about upcoming shuttle programs. A few of you said you were curious about ridership numbers. Well the results are in! Total ridership in 2012 increased 121 percent from 2011 with a grand total of 76,377 trips taken – our highest ridership to date! We are also seeing good ridership numbers as we start 2013. Here are loop averages for January…

  • Eastside loop: 307 riders
  • Westside loop: 276 riders
  • Central loop: 381 riders
  • Square loop: 203 riders

Thank you for your commitment to spare the air, reduce congestion and reduce gas use. Please continue to give us feedback! Visit our website or email Sarah.
