Neighborhood Ride What do hornets, almonds and the Forties have in common? For starters, they are all signature Sacramento icons – and the NNTMA wants you to see them by way of bicycle. Don’t miss our next Neighborhood Ride on June 8th where we will trek southwest to East Sac by way of the American River Bike Trail, passing Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium on our way. We will then head west through the Fab 40’s, past McKinley Park, by Blue Diamond Almond Growers and back north, stopping by Panera Bread along the American River Bike Trail for drinks on us. All rides depart at 8:30 a.m. from the North Natomas TMA office located at 1960 Del Paso Road. Always bring water, a helmet, and an extra bike tube. No need to RSVP – just show up! Fold-up Shuttle Fun! Did you get a fold-up shuttle onboard the Flyer last month? It’s time to dig it out and assemble it because, starting in June, we will be running a contest that includes photos, your fold-up shuttle and some pretty fabulous prizes! If you can’t find yours, don’t panic. (We know that kids and dogs both love cardboard cut-outs, too.) Just pick up a new one from your driver and stay tuned! |

Executives Rev Up Awareness on the Win-Win of Going Electric This month the NNTMA Board President Derek Chernow paired up with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District to participate in a pilot program called TakeCharge, aimed at educating the region about electric vehicles. Chernow was one of a few executives in the area chosen to test drive a Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) for a week to encourage the use of PEVs and also to encourage businesses to install charging stations on their premises. For the week-long campaign, Chernow was paired with a battery-operated Nissan Leaf from a local participating dealership and used it instead of his regular car to make the 20-mile roundtrip commute to his office. The Nissan Leaf can go 80 miles on one charge and is equipped with a screen that lets the driver see all charging stations within a certain radius. Currently, there are about 120 public stations in the greater Sacramento area. Chernow reports that plugging in was convenient for him and that, of course, he saved himself the hassle and cost of filling up at a gas station. (Drivers who spend $45 a week at the pump save about $2,340 annually with a PEV.) Add to this the fact that the board president liked the car’s performance. “Frankly, it was one of the best cars I’ve ever driven,” he says. “We should all be making the switch.” |
