North Natomas Loves May is Bike Month

North Natomas residents, businesses and community partners were a force en masse during May is Bike Month, riding a total of 63,936 miles in the month! We started May off with a celebration at The Club at Natomas Park. Next, we got folks revved up with Flyer window wraps, and then a feast for Bike to Work Day where 43 bicycles and their captains fueled up on coffee and breakfast treats. The NNTMA also instructed 60 residents at four cycling clinics. We tip our helmets to the 439 residents and employees who got us a whole lot closer to the 2 million mile goal. Way to keep your tires to the pavement, North Natomas!

The Kids Just Want to Ride

Hold on to your bike seat as we give you the final tallies from the North Natomas TMA’s “May is Bike Month” (MIBM) School Campaign 2013, which we implemented in ten schools throughout North Natomas.

To inspire students and staff alike to ride during May, we hosted five free Bike Doc “Fix-It Fair” events at different school sites where the “Doc” fixed 202 bicycles, enabling more children and parents to pedal freely in May.  The NNTMA also hosted kickoff assemblies at each school; sent home safety information to families; awarded weekly prizes; and presented the top North Natomas school with the Perpetual Trophy and the top class and top rider in each school with awards and prizes.

Seven of 10 participating North Natomas Schools ranked within the top 10 schools in the entire region and biked a grand total of 50,394 miles! It’s official: North Natomas schools like to ride their bicycles!

The 1st through 3rd place winners are:

  • Regency Park Elementary, 1st place in the region, 10,115 miles
  • H. Allen Hight Elementary, 2nd place in the region, 8,468 miles
  • Witter Ranch Elementary, 3rd place in the region, 8,128 miles

We salute each and every student, parent and staff member who participated this year and say, “keep on riding!”

Fun-sized Flyer Photo Contest! Winning is a Snap!

Have you seen our new, tear-and-fold mini-sized Flyers? Yes? Well, now is the time to summon the kid in you and get creative because we want to see all the fun places you take them! Just snap a picture of your fun-sized Flyer somewhere other than on the shuttle, and post it on our Facebook page or tag it on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #FlyerShuttle. Who knows where they will show up… on a boat, on a train, or eating peanuts on a plane? What we do know, however, is that only the most fun, creative, and original pictures will make the final cut.

The contest starts July 1st and all photos must be received by July 15th. The NNTMA will narrow down the entries to the top five on July 16th and notify finalists via comment on their submitted photo. Finalist pictures will be placed on NNTMA’s Facebook page on July 17th where the masses will get their turn to choose the winner! Voting will be open to the public until July 22nd and the participant with the most votes will win one full book of Flyer Shuttle tickets (a week’s worth of passes) and a $25 gift card. Pick up a fun-sized Flyer from your shuttle driver today!

Bike, Camp and Get Pampered!

Get ready to feel like a million bucks even while pedaling your heart out on a three-day camp and cycle adventure on the Emigrant Trails Bike Trek in South Lake Tahoe’s Camp Richardson. On September 6th, 7th and 8th bike trek participants can expect stunning scenery, catered meals, on-road support teams and themed stops every 15-20 miles of the journey.

Everything is better with friends and we’ve got you covered! The Natomas Flyers cycling group will be sponsoring a team again this year and will provide jerseys (and a posse of new compadres) for everyone who signs up! The event raises money to fight against teen smoking, asthma and dirty air, and costs $35 and an additional $450 in fundraised amounts per person. Register online with our team here: http://events.sacbreathe.org/site/TR/Events/Trek?team_id=3000&pg=team&fr_id=1170
