May + Bicycles = 2M

Two million may seem like a big number, but when it comes to May is Bike Month, Sacramento has shown the world that it’s within reach. We are almost half way through MiBM and it’s time to strap on the helmets and grease the gears for the last push to make our goals as a community. Here’s what you can do to help:

1. Register and log your miles! You can even add miles you’ve already biked so far. We also encourage members of the Club at Natomas Park to register under the team of the same name.

2. Ride social! Share bike-related posts and photos with the hashtags #iBikeNN and #31reasonstobike! We love seeing all the bike fun happening around North Natomas.

3. If nothing else, do it for the socks. Yes, we will be giving away coveted MiBM socks to selected North Natomas winners. Just ride your bike to the Flyer Shuttle and use the bike racks. Watch our instructional video to see how they work.

Spare the Air Season is Upon Us

Did you know that Sacramento will issue a Spare the Air alert on days when the Air Quality Index (AQI) for ground-level ozone pollution is expected to reach 127 or higher? When the advisory is issued, residents are encouraged to leave the car at home and take extra precautions to keep themselves safe from over exposure. To help keep our community healthy, the Flyer Shuttle is free on Spare the Air days.

Sign up for Spare the Air alerts.

The NNTMA 2013 Annual Report is In

There’s no better way to see our organization’s mission, goals and what we accomplished in the previous year than in our annual reports. This year, our report comes to you in an easy-to-read web viewer and reveals big steps forward for the NNTMA. For instance, do you know how much our Flyer ridership has increased since 2012, or how many gallons of gasoline our riders helped save? The numbers might surprise you!  Read it all, right here.

Let Your Love of Biking Turn the Page

If you can’t get enough time behind the handlebars, why not extend your enjoyment of bicycles to the realm of reading? The NNTMA has donated books on biking, ranging from historical to fiction to educational, to several North Natomas school libraries. If your kids attend Witter Ranch Elementary, Westlake Charter, Natomas Park Elementary, H. Allen Hight Elementary, Regency Park Elementary or Heron School, just ask your librarian what’s new on the shelves!

Bike Valet? But, of Course.

Pedal your way to Natomas at Nite this summer! Movies in the Park at the North Natomas Regional Park will have a bike valet available so you can relax and enjoy the animated flick of the month. Designated, fabulous volunteers will keep an eye on your safely corralled steed. Want to know if Frozen is on the schedule? Go ahead, check out the lineup.

Last Call for Clinics

Our last Bike Clinic of the year will be held on May 13th at the North Natomas Library from 6 to 8 p.m. Bike rebate candidates: this is your last chance to fulfill your rebate clinic requirement. All others, come learn the real road rules of riding in traffic and how to change your own flat tire. It’s free!

And Even More Bike Opportunities

Sometimes, you need to stretch your legs and your sense of adventure beyond your own neighborhood. Here are some events in other parts of the Sacramento region that you might enjoy, including an Amgen-related event.
