We Could Carless in May

May is Bike Month has reached a critical mass in the Sacramento Region and we are proud to say that North Natomas has been a leader in helping us all become more bike-conscious, tallying a whopping total of 149,878 miles out of the 1,987,030 logged for the region in 2014. Let’s beat that this year!

Did you log last year? Challenge yourself to a new goal this year. Did you forget to log? Well here’s your reminder. Sign up, spiff up your wheels and get out there! Here are some ways to increase your pedal power.

Register for the Commuter Club and get riding. Members who log bike miles will be automatically entered into a weekly sock drawing.

Join the Family Ride at The Club at Natomas Park on May 3rd.

Brush up on your skills at the Bike Clinic on May 12th.

Ride like the wind to the Capitol BikeFest on May 14th. Gang up with like-minded neighbors here at the NNTMA office at 10 a.m. to ride to the festival as a group.

Fuel the fire at Bike to Work Day on May 21st. Whether shopping, errands or work is the destination, fuel up first at the NNTMA-hosted bicycle breakfast stop between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the east entrance of Sleep Train Arena & Truxel Rd. Need a destination? We’ll leave breakfast at 9 a.m. for a twenty-some miler around town.

Spring is for pedals on campuses around North Natomas. Watch and learn as students and teachers rack up the miles during Bike Month at their school. Participating schools include Natomas Park Elementary, Witter Ranch Elementary, Heron School, H. Allen Hight Elementary, Westlake Charter School, NP3 Middle School, Performing and Fine Arts Academy, Leading Edge Middle School, Natomas Middle School and Regency Park Elementary.

Get inspired on our Twitter and Facebook pages as we share 31 Tips to Ride - ideas for improving your ride for beginners to “experts” and everyone in between.

Mix business with biking at the Natomas Chamber of Commerce Mixer on Thursday, May 28th. This bike-inspired event encourages you to mingle with the Natomas business community. Members are FREE and non-members are $10.00. The NNTMA will host from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Flyer Shuttle Survey

The North Natomas TMA is exploring opportunities to improve shuttle service during the coming year. These changes could include new routes and changes to improve reliability. The next step in this process involves gathering information about passenger travel patterns. Please take a few minutes to answer the following questions as best you can.

Please complete this survey only if you have not already done so.

Human Power Gets an A+

Once again, the NNTMA will partner with local North Natomas schools to host Bike to School Days. These events invite students and their families to ride - instead of drive - to campus. Every family that leaves the car at home and relies on bicycles to arrive will be treated to a delicious breakfast, courtesy of the NNTMA. Breakfasts and celebrations take place before school starts.

Neighborhood Rides: You’re Invited

By now you’ve gathered that our mission is to make North Natomas a better place via alternative forms of transportation, but did you know we also have a passion for people? We love helping residents meet new friends, and meeting new ones ourselves! Our series of free Neighborhood Rides is the perfect environment for just that. Take a peek at these upcoming rides:

Parks Ride 4/25
Since North Natomas is nicknamed the City of Parks, it makes sense to explore the nature right in our own backyard. Come with us as we wind through several new -- and not so new -- parks here and in South Natomas. Families are welcome on this new ride; just be sure your kids are up for the challenge! We will depart from our office at 1918 Del Paso Rd, Suite 100 at 8:30 a.m.

Family Ride 5/3
Bring the littles on this little, 4-mile, kid-friendly ride starting at The Club at Natomas Park and ending with a picnic and playtime at North Natomas Regional Park. We will provide snacks, but families should pack their own lunch. We will meet at 10:30 a.m. at The Club at Natomas Park, group departs at 11 a.m.

Calistoga, Here We Come!

Need a change of scenery and a slight shift in speed? How does a three day, two night trip with the Natomas Flyers sound? The annual Emigrant Trails Bike Trek out of Napa County is a little "glamping", a little Tour de France and a little R&R all in one. Unlike the Tour de France, however, this one is not a race! Themed bike stops, catered meals and entertainment make it one for the bucket list, so don’t miss out.

Date: September 11th-13th
Location: Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, CA

The trek accommodates cyclists of various levels so register today at www.sacbreathe.org/etbt, team name: Natomas Flyers. Get more information from Abbey at Abbey@nntma.org.

What Do You Know about Bike Riding?

So you think you can ride a bike in traffic, eh? Well, come test your prowess at one of our two upcoming Bike Clinics scheduled for 5/12 and 6/8.

These clinics are designed to refresh you on the rules of the road and answer any questions you may have about negotiating traffic, right of way, etc. The class is held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. right here at our office, and taught by a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor, so mark your calendar and bring a friend!
