Bike Month is in Full Swing

It’s definitely not too late to jump in the May is Bike Month game. Register at MayisBikeMonth.com to join the pedal party; the list of rewards and events goes on and on:

  • Commuter Club members who log bike miles will be automatically entered into the famous weekly sock drawing.
  • Live in Natomas Park? Join "Team Natomas Park" when you register on MayisBikeMonth.com.
  • Ride, play and eat for free at the NNTMA’s Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 21st. Stop by for breakfast between 6-9 a.m. at the east entrance of Sleep Train Arena on Truxel Road.
  • Students, teachers and staff ride during Bike Month at School, where prizes and good times abound. Weekly bike trips get logged and are included in the final MiBM total.
  • Follow along on Twitter and Facebook as we give you “31 Tips to Ride,” for beginners to “experts” and everyone in between.
  • Mingle with the business community at the Natomas Chamber of Commerce Mixer on Thursday, May 28th. It’s bike-inspired fun, hosted by the NNTMA from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Chamber members attend for free and non-members get in for $10.00.

We Heart Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heart of our Walk and Bike to School Program, and we couldn’t promote health, clean air or the benefits of active transportation without them. That’s why we celebrated with a Volunteer Appreciation BBQ at the North Natomas Regional Park, complete with juicy eats off the grill, music, pinatas, and face painters! A huge “Thank You” to all of the people that make this program successful. Check out all smiling faces!

Bike It

The term “valet” dates back a few hundred years, and, according to Wikipedia, is loosely translated to “personal man servant.” What trusty bicycle doesn’t need one or two of those? Hooray for Bike Valet, where diligent and dutiful gents and ladies watch over your trusty steed while you are busy doing other  things.

Need ideas of “other things” to do? Check out these summer-tastic events hosted by Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby. FREE Bike Valet will be available at:

  • Natomas at Nite on June 5th: Movie in the Park - Big Hero 6
  • WestFest on June 20th: Food trucks, music, games and the perfect amount of hullabaloo.
  • Natomas at Nite on July 10th: Movie in the Park - The Lorax
  • Natomas at Nite on August 1st: Movie in the Park - A Bug’s Life

May We Tempt You With Some Awesome Rides?

One of our signature events in May is our annual Bike to Work/Errands/ Pleasure Day held this year on Thursday, May 21st. Early birds, this is your sweet spot, and for all the rest of us, a chance to see a Sacramento sunrise. Just bike over to the east entrance of Sleep Train Arena on Truxel Road between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for breakfast and biking treats. For those who wish to ride some more, we’ll pack it all up at 9 a.m. and head out for a 20-miler around town.

More of a weekend warrior? You’ve got a chance on June 13th for a 25-mile journey to West Sacramento.  We’ll cruise along the Deep Water Channel, stop  for a TMA-sponsored bite at Nugget Market in Southport and take in ski boats, the Riverfront Promenade and the Crocker Art Museum on the way back. We will depart from the NNTMA office at 8:30 a.m. Bring water, a helmet and an extra bike tube!

Get Out of Town

Our own backyard is beautiful but so are the neighboring regions, especially by bicycle! This year, the Emigrant Trails Bike Trek takes us to the California hot springs capitol, Calistoga, from September 11th-13th. The NNTMA bike group, Natomas Flyers, will be heading out of town on this adventure and we want you there, too! Register today under our team name. The Trek is not a race and accommodates cyclists of various levels. Great food, breathtaking views and new friends are also part of the packaged deal!
