It's Warming Up Out There

High temperatures can contribute to an unhealthy air quality, but that isn’t the only factor that triggers a Spare the Air Day. Spare the Air Days are announced when the AQI for ground-level ozone pollution is forecast to reach 127 or above.

Sign up for Spare the Air Alerts and ride the Flyer for free when a Spare the Air day is announced.

North Natomas Pedaled Hard This May

Another May is Bike Month is in the books, and it sure was fun! During the month of May, North Natomas employees, residents, students, and teachers logged a grand total of 143,777 miles in the saddle. The NNTMA was proud to organize and host a mix of bike related events including bike clinics, bike rides, breakfasts and even a velo-themed Natomas Chamber of Commerce mixer.

Bike Month campaigns also took place at ten North Natomas schools. To kick off the month-long celebration, Bike to School breakfasts took place at five North Natomas elementary schools, with 428 students and parents participating. Every classroom in the participating schools were encouraged to log their miles each day to earn weekly prizes and recognition.

Check out these fun pictures taken around town during the bike-happy month.

A Voice and Some Paint

Recently, after some urging from residents in the area, fresh paint has been added to the intersection of Duckhorn Drive and Great Egret Way to calm traffic. The project removed an unnecessary left turn only lane, which opened up the road for more continuous bike lanes and shoulder space. The traffic is now going slower making a better situation for cars, bikes, and pedestrians alike.

This initiative was spearheaded by Witter Ranch Community Alliance Board Member, Keith Sharward, "It turned out great and exactly what I had envisioned. It's much safer there now. I walk our greyhound over there all the time and it has made a huge difference."
