Welcome Back, Bike Doc!

Our beautiful and beloved Bike Doc is back, after a bit of hibernating, and is ready to tune, tweak and repair your free-wheeling ride just in time for spring. Need brakes or handlebars adjusted? How about a good old-fashioned gear check-up?

Go here for the Spring 2016 Bike Doc Event Schedule for Bike Doc appearances happening from April to June.

Remember, bikes are received on a first-come, first-served basis, and we kindly ask that you only bring one bike per person.

Parent Champs Needed!

Are you an engaged community member and parent of a child enrolled in elementary school here in the 2016/2017 school year? The NNTMA is now seeking reliable, friendly moms and dads with superb school spirit to be future Parent Champs: role models and cheerleaders who will help us grow our army of families who walk and bike to school!

In this role, the chosen candidates will assist the NNTMA in implementing project activities and campus outreach at each school, while being the main point person on campus for volunteers. They will also facilitate frequent communication between the NNTMA staff and school communities and will get a chance to design their own walk to school promotion. A little creativity makes a big difference in getting kids and families to join the movement!

Ready to get involved? We are now accepting applications for paid, part-time positions for the 2016/17 school year. Positions are open until filled, so be sure to apply sooner than later.

March Into March

Let's celebrate that healthy minds and bodies go hand in hand. March into March is a program where students who walk or bike to any of our participating schools throughout the month of March are entered to win a brand new book by Scholastic! We believe (and studies have shown) that walking before school improves attention span, memory and overall brain function, so fire up your feet for a chance to read your heart out!

Sacramento Needs Your Input

Part of the NNTMA’s mission is to highlight various issues that affect our residents, on both a local and regional level. Below, is a short list of current projects looking for input. Don’t miss out on a chance to affect positive change for you and your neighbors; let’s hear your voice, North Natomas!

Traffic + Construction Alerts: 80 Across the Top

Know what’s coming around the bend, literally, on Interstate 80, with alerts and updates from the 80 Across the Top project. Caltrans projects this project to "build about 10 miles of bus/carpool lanes, repave the highway from east of the Sacramento River Bridge to Watt Avenue, and add about one mile of new lanes from West El Camino Avenue to the Interstate 80/Interstate 5 interchange." Here are the current conditions:

  • Norwood on-ramp to westbound I-80 is now open.

  • Northgate on-ramps to westbound I-80 are closed for 22 days (weather dependent).

  • Expect intermittent ramp closures at Truxel Road and West El Camino Avenue on westbound I-80 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. now through an unspecified completion date.

  • Monitor alerts and stay up to date here, or on Twitter @80AcrossTheTop.
