A Fabulous Neighborhood Ride for You

Ladies and gentlemen, lend us your gears! Actually, you can keep your gears but get them in motion this Saturday, June 11th as we embark on one of our Neighborhood Ride adventures - this time a 24-mile jaunt through the fabulous streets of East Sac and Sac State. These rides are open to every level of rider, but be sure children are up for the trek. Bring a helmet, water and an extra tube.

Our group departs promptly at 8:30 am from the NNTMA office at 1918 Del Paso Road.

Please and Thank You: A Refresher on Shuttle Manners

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, eyes up and voices down! It’s time for a quick refresher on Flyer Shuttle etiquette and manners so that our service can remain an alternative transportation jewel.

Please:

  • Take your trash with you.
  • Watch your language.
  • Keep your phone conversations off the shuttle.
  • Only occupy one seat.
  • Place baggage on your lap or under your seat.
  • Apply fragrance after you’ve left the shuttle.
  • Do not demand others to stand and give up their seats for you.
  • Be chivalrous and do offer your seat to those in obvious physical need.
  • Have your fare ready when you board.
  • Arrive at the stop early to allow everyone to keep on schedule.

It's Warming Up Out There

High temperatures can contribute to an unhealthy air quality, but that isn't the only factor that triggers a Spare the Air Day. Spare the Air Days are announced when the AQI for ground-level ozone pollution is forecast to reach 126 or above.

Sign up for Spare the Air Alerts and ride the Flyer Shuttle for free when a Spare the Air Day is announced.

MiBM: The Numbers Are In

May is Bike Month whizzed by this year and we are happy to report that, thanks to our own local bike whizzes, we had another awesome year full of pedaling. Local businesses, teams, schools, faculty and families all got in the game!

So how far did we ride? Without further adieu, North Natomas logged a total of 114,057 miles. Way to show up and represent! Keep that momentum rolling this summer; there are plenty of local and regional events that are perfect opportunities to keep you riding.

Congratulations to Our Own Becky Heieck!

Every year, Office of Councilmember Angelique Ashby, Sentaor Dr. Richard Pan, Natomas Chamber of Commerce, the Natomas Buzz and N Magazine recognizes youth and community members for their outstanding service to North Natomas at the N Factor Awards. We are so proud to announce that our very own NNTMA Executive Director Becky Heieck received one of the highest N Factor awards possible -- the ‘Council District 1 Diamond Award’ for her efforts and successes in helping to transform North Natomas into a connected, livable community through advocacy and execution of transportation-related initiatives in the area.

Also, we’d like to give a big congratulations to Beth Mahony, another N Factor award recipient this year and NNTMA volunteer. She has been an integral part of our success. Way to go, Beth!

Check out all the winners and photos from the ceremony.

Bike Doc @ Food Truck Mania

Have you heard of FOMO? It stands for “Fear of Missing Out” and you might just catch it if you don’t get in to see the Bike Doc next week. There's one more chance until August to get a free tune-up, bike repair, or seat adjustment, all for the very low cost of FREE. Remember, this is a first-come first-served and one-bike-per-person event.

Show up early -- the event goes from 5 - 8 pm at the North Natomas Library on Thursday, June 16th.

Farmers Market + Bike Valet = So Fresh and So Green

There is just something about farmers markets that puts a little pep in our step. Local, organic produce, neighbors getting to know each other and their community -- and here in North Natomas, free bike valet!

So, stuff those reusable grocery bags in your handy bike basket and head down to the North Natomas Regional Park Farmers Market every Thursday between 4:30 and 8:30 pm through the end of summer. Take advantage of the complimentary bike valet through June.

Several Small Steps for Kids...

One giant leap for Natomas!

Success! Another successful Walk to School year is in the books, and we couldn’t have done it without our awesome Parent Champions. We throw our hats in the air to honor the following superstars: Ana Chan at Natomas Park Elementary, Christa Erlank at H. Allen Hight Elementary, Armando Arroyo at Witter Ranch Elementary, Donna McDonald at Westlake Charter, and Mike Calarco at Heron School for their dedication, commitment and caring, all of which have made the program the high-stepping victory it is.

We also extend a huge THANK YOU to the many volunteers at all the schools for making the program possible.

Our army of Parent Champions and volunteers have helped the program in so many ways including helping the program grow in numbers, getting them off to a great healthy start in the morning, helping the environment, and doing it all with warmth and a smile. We can’t wait for next year!

Bike Valet Needs You!

Interested in volunteering your spare time this summer? The Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates is seeking volunteers for their bike valet program. Volunteers are needed to help check-in bikes at a variety of events throughout the region, including Sacramento Republic games, Concerts in the Park, our very own Natomas Farmers Market and more.

Contact Erin Healy at volunteer@sacbike.org for a full listing of volunteer opportunities.

A Moonlit Ride to Help Little Lives

On Saturday, July 23rd, cycling friends and neighbors will gather outside the Capitol to embark on a night ride to benefit children’s charities in Sacramento -- including CASA and Making Memories. The event will start at 7 p.m. with a food truck bonanza and music to get everyone fueled and fired up. Then, at 9 pm riders will take off on an iconic Sacramento tour, visiting the Tower Bridge, Sacramento River and more. Afterwards, an after party! Go here for the details.

We'd also like to recognize our friends at Point West Rotary Club who have organized this fun, family-friendly event. Thanks!
